Ngatapa Ecological Trust

Ngatapa Ecological Trust

Ngatapa is a privately-owned area of remote mountainous landscape in the central North Island of New Zealand. The majority of the site is in native forest, all of which is protected and contains many rare and threatened species. New Zealand currently has almost 4000 native plant and animal species at risk of extinction. Four out of every five bird species are in trouble, with many close to losing the battle for survival.

The Ngatapa Restoration Project aims to restore and safeguard its abundant and dvisers native species. The ongoing restoration work will help save:

  • Whio - one of the most threatened of all New Zealand's bird species
  • North Island Brown kiwi - a national icon cherished by all New Zealanders
  • Long-tailed bats - our tiny, insect eating land mammals

Aon is proud to support the Ngatapa Ecological Trust with all donations assisting with the much-needed infrastructure set-up as well as ongoing monitoring of wildlife and control activities.
